The Challenge

Volumetric Building Companies or VBC, is a modular construction company that has become a staple name for all things modular after many successful projects around the country.

What started as a local Philadelphia construction company that wanted to make homes people were proud to live in, VBC quickly grew into the leading modular building company in the vicinity. Rapidly growing, VBC faced the problem of creating a brand that reflected both their Philly origins, their massive expansion, and their desire to switch from merely a construction company to a full fledged global modular consulting service. VBC called on The Moving Company to funnel these needs into one coherent brand identity, in a timeframe that not only had to keep pace, but surpass their growth rate.

The Process

The Moving Company worked directly with VBC’s director of marketing to rethink how VBC is seen by its clients, competitors, and employees through brand exploration and concepting. The switch was enacted in order to elevate the company toward their desired, wider scope: being a modular consulting service, not just a construction company. 

To emphasize the rebranding, The Moving Company developed specific brand guidelines so that all channels of Volumetric Building Companies’ branding could be uniform, and aligned in its messaging. This also involved transitioning the company’s web presence to a HubSpot CMS that is modular driven. In recreating their web presence, The Moving Company elevated the perception of VBC, granting them the elegance of an international consulting service. 

Through the guidance of The Moving Company’s personalized brand guide, the team developed an entirely new design system that includes a complete overhaul of every element from the brand library, to sales materials, to designed social graphics to increase engagement and awareness of the new brand, while ensuring the company retained its personal, organic feel as it grew.

Problem Solved

The elements within the design system succeeded in representing Volumetric Building Companies’ strong presence, expressing the company’s modern and stable identity. 

Through the development of Volumetric Building Companies’ complete brand system, Hubspot CMS, and sales materials, the business is establishing the credibility and image they need in order to sustain the growth planned and ultimately executed. 

In January 2022, VBC merged with Polcom Group - a premium steel modular building and custom furniture manufacturing conglomerate - to become a global entity, providing modular construction and modular fit out and hotel furniture services to the hospitality industry across the globe.

As businesses grow, so does their brand portfolio. Veterans Village - a platform brand for permanent housing facility for veterans. Our Veterans Village design, created for VBC’s Giving Foundation, was intended to be scalable and repurposed with small variations for similar initiatives down the road for other vulnerable populations in need of affordable housing.
